Description:This Commercialization Workshop is organized for the purpose of equipping small high tech firms in our state with the business concepts and methods essential to sound planning for new high tech products and for company growth. Dr. Marsha R. Torr, Vice President for Research, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is the gracious host for this workshop, and members of VCU's Business School faculty will provide astute instruction in hey dimensions of the business planning process. Though not intended for academic credit, the content offered is, in effect, a short course in small high tech enterprises. To assure contact with the real world of SBIR competition, founding CEOs of three leading Virginia companies are featured to share their SBIR experience as high tech growth companies.

A special feature of the workshop is a luncheon address by Dr. Charles Wessner, Director of the Program on technology and Innovation, National Academy of Sciences, Washington, D.C. Dr. Wessner currently leads a Congressionally mandated study of the 21-year old SBIR program in its five largest agencies and will brief us on this milestone effort to evaluate its performance and, in particular, its economic effects.

Description:The SBIR grant program can be an important source of early-stage technology company funding. Learn to prepare competitive Phase I proposals by attending our SBIR Phase I Proposal Preparation workshop August 19th at the JARI Center for Business Development in Johnstown. The cost is only $25 per person, including refreshment breaks and lunch.

This workshop will be taught by Gail and Jim Greenwood, who have been active with the SBIR program since SBIR's inception, making firms aware of SBIR and its opportunities, and teaching how to write competitive technical and cost proposals for SBIR funding. The Greenwoods have presented SBIR workshops in 41 States to thousands of persons. An evaluation of the effectiveness of their training showed that over 90% of the respondents indicated that the workshops had improved their ability to compete for SBIR.

You will also hear about a new program that may be able to help you pay for some costs related to preparing your SBIR Phase I proposal. This program is being offered through the Innovation Partnership, a collaboration of economic development agencies in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania which has been developed to increase both the quantity and the quality of the statewide SBIR proposal through marketing, proposal preparation and proposal assistance.

Description:During this workshop, small businesses will be able to talk one on one with AFRL/ML technical experts concerning the Draft FY04 SBIR Topics.
