| PROGRAM OVERVIEW |
The first day is devoted to providing everyone an overview and update of the SBIR and STTR Programs, and what the participating agencies are looking for. Detailed, expanded agency presentations from all federal agencies are highlighted, plus the opportunity to sit down and talk one-on-one with agency representatives in the Networking Room.
If you’ve never attended one of the SBIR Conferences before, on Day One you will be introduced to the “whole picture” so that you know where you’re headed, and you will get tips on how to get there. The “how to” includes identifying and utilizing the various partners poised and ready to help you as you move toward the final goal – Commercialization! Key sessions in this conference will focus on an Overview from the Agencies and what topic areas the participating agencies are currently interested in. Day Two focuses on laying A Necessary Foundation for SBIR/STTR Success via sessions on Business Planning - needed for your business success and to present a strong proposal. An Introduction to Government Grants and Contracts: Government contracts are different – Find out the do’s and don’ts, the can’s and cannot’s from experts. An Introduction to Accounting and Audits: This is not like standard accounting/audits by the IRS – Learn the difference. Evaluations: The Who and How that make or break your proposal. Day Three moves into Technology Management and looks at What’s Your Next Step? – Take a look down the road so you can identify and plan for your long term goals.
For those of you more knowledgeable about the program and the basics of doing business with the government, on Day One you will be able to get Updates from all the Agencies. Day Two you will want to attend sessions on Critical Technologies that will give you a “heads up” on what to expect in different technological areas in the near future. Technology Topic areas targeted for this conference are: Bioscience, Fuel Cells/Power & Propulsion, Information Technology, and Nanotechnology/Advanced Materials. Key associations, organizations, and companies in these areas will provide a “crystal ball” look at the future needs to be addressed. On Day Three specific technology success stories and practical experience examples will be presented.
Experienced SBIR/STTR participants will gain knowledge from the expanded overview and Networking Room opportunities on Day One and move on to the critical phase 2 and 3 aspects of the program – Partnering: Who is Out There? Why is it Important to your Success? with sessions geared at working with the University system in Partnerships with SBIR/STTR. Resources: Who They Are and How to Use Them will focus on inexpensive ways to gain experience and expertise from others. Attracting Non-Government Funding – Tips on How to Get It rounds out the Day Two programming. Day Three features Commercialization – Next to the Final Frontier. Sessions will help you move forward through the program and focus on Commercialization Planning and a look at what Venture Capitalists are REALLY looking for NOW.
Whether you are new to the program, have a grant under your belt, or are a multiple award winner, the sessions offered this fall in Cleveland will help you enhance your participation in the SBIR/STTR Program.
BONUS SESSIONS!! The conference officially ends at noon on Thursday, October 30, but, in addition to the optional, hands-on, post-conference workshops, we are offering two BONUS SESSIONS included in your basic conference fee! Both sessions will be offered from 1:00pm to 2:30pm on Thursday and you are asked to note if you will be attending for planning purposes on your registration. No extra fees apply to these two Bonus Sessions!
